Rivers PDP Chairman’s Media Aide Escapes Assassination

The media aide to the chairman of Rivers State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Jerry Needam, narrowly escaped death as gunmen numbering about four, stormed his residence in Port Harcourt between 4am and 5am Saturday morning.

Rivers has witnessed fever-pitched political activities in recent times as the clamour for who succeeds Governor Rotimi Amaechi has pitched politicians against each other.

The gunmen were said to have escaped in a speed boat when police arrived the scene.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Muhammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the Command had commenced investigation into the matter with a promise that the fleeing gunmen would be tracked down.

“The Command received a report of invasion by unidentified hoodlums into the house of one Jerry Needam last night. Investigation has commenced in earnest with a view to apprehending the hoodlums”, DSP Muhammad said.
