How Gov. Suswam Escaped Death Hours To His 50th Birthday

Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam narrowly escaped death yesterday, hours to his 50th birthday, when his convoy was involved in a ghastly accident.
The accident occurred at about 11 am at Angbaaye village, a border community between Makurdi and Guma local government areas of the state, when the governor was on his way to Mbatierev in Gboko local government to commission a road project.
His deputy, who was on a trip to commission a tree planting project at Wannune in Tarka local government, but rode in the same convoy as the governor was also involved in the crash, but walked out unscathed.

At least 15 persons, including security aides, drivers on the convoy of the governor and passengers in two commercial vehicles, also involved in the accident, were badly injured, Leadership Newspaper reports.
The governor’s official car was also damaged beyond repairs, just as two of the commercial vehicles were also completely destroyed.

Witnesses say a Toyota wagon car coming from Gboko had a head-on collision with one of the vehicles on the governor’s convoy. The driver of the commercial vehicle, according to The Leadership, lost control and rammed into another vehicle that was parked off the shoulder of the road to pave way for the convoy before it collided with the governors official car.

The governor while assessing the level of damage and the severe injuries sustained by the victims, ordered that they should be evacuated to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi for urgent medical treatment.

He thanked God for saving his life and that of others involved in the accident.
Suswam, who was born on November 15, 1964 clocks 50 today.
