Supporters
of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Adamawa
Central, Abdul’Aziz Nyako, have staged a peaceful protest over his
arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The protesters held placards in Yola, the state capital, calling for
the release of Abdul’Aziz. The placards had inscriptions such as:
“Release Abdul’Aziz now”, “No to politically motivated arrests”.
Abdulaziz, son of the impeached governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, was arrested last Friday in Gombe by EFCC operatives and whisked to Abuja over allegation of money laundering.
The spokesperson for the protesters, Zaiyanu Sahabi, condemned the arrest, alleging that it was politically motivated and a ploy to prevent Abdul’Aziz from winning the election.
“This arrest is politically motivated. Our candidate, Abdul’Aziz is popular and set to win the March election. His crime is his popularity and the fact that he is the son of former governor of the state”, he said.
