Free Agent, Aiyegbeni Back In England With Reading


Reading have signed Nigerian striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni on a free transfer until the end of the season.
Aiyegbeni, 32, left Chinese Super League club Guangzhou R&F few months to the end of his contract.

The Royals are the 6th English side to sign Aiyegbeni, who moved to Portsmouth in January 2003 on an initial loan deal. He also had spells with Middlesbrough, Everton, Leicester City and Blcakburn Rovers.

The Championship side manager, Steve Clark, told its official website: “Yakubu brings a fantastic scoring record to this club and his addition will complement the strikers we’ve already got at Reading and help us to improve as a team in latter stages of the season.

“I know all about him as a player and I have heard very good reports about him as a personality in the dressing room. He is no-risk signing for us and I look forward to him scoring goals for Reading Football Club.”

The former Julius Berger striker is the highest scoring African in the English Premier League with 114 goals- 11 ahead of Ivory Coast’s Didier Drogba.
His 21 goals in 57 international appearances is currently the third highest tally ever by an Nigerian footballer, after Segun Odegbami (22) and Rashidi Yekini (37).
