Manchester City rekindled their title hopes after they demolished Newcastle United 5-0 at the Etihad this evening.
The Citizens raced into the lead as early as the 28 secondwhen striker Edin Dzeko was brought down by Vurnon Anita inside the 18-yard box and Sergio Ă¢€˜KunĂ¢€™ Aguero successfully netted his 17th goal of the season from the penalty spot.
Newcastle United started the second half looking to reduce the deficit as Pappis Cisse went close with a left foot volley from the edge of the box but his effort was saved by Joe Hart in goal for Manchester City.
And at the other end, David Silva got a quick brace -€“ first he finished off a fine team move on 51 minutes and two minutes later he blasted a shot in from the edge of the box off a chest-controlled pass by Aguero.
The returning Yaya Toure wasimpressive in midfield and was joined on the pitch by hisIvorian colleague and City’™s new signing Wilfred Bony to the warm applaud of the Etihad crowd but he was denied a goal by Tim Krul when the Dutch keeper saved his shot on 76 minutes.
At 5-0 City just played with a relaxed swagger as they entertained the roaring crowd but the biggest joy for the Manuel Pellegrini side is the dropped points by title rivals Chelsea who played out a 1-1 draw against Burnley earlier inthe day.
