APC denies rejecting Nwobodo, Nnaji

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has denied media report that the party refused moves by former Governor, Jim Nwobodo, and Prof. Barth Nnaji to join the party.
The leaders of the party told Daily Sun yesterday in Abuja that the report attributed to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the party in the state, Mrs. Kate Offor, was misleading and wrong.
In their various reactions, the state party Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, the BoT member of the party, General J. O. J. Okoloagu and the party governorship candidate in the last month’s election, Chief Okey Ezea, all said the report did not reflect the position of the party.

The party chieftains said: “The truth is that Chief Nwobodo and Prof. Nnaji never applied to join the party, and therefore, their refusal by the party that they should join would never arise when they never indicated interest.”
They noted that a party or any organization could only refuse people when they apply, and since neither of the two applied either in writing or in verbal communication to join the party, it was preposterous to say they were refused.
General Okoloagu noted: “Kate Offor, the PRO is a member of the party and we know her, but as an officer of the party, she could never exercise a mandate she was never given. As a BoT member, there is no way personalities as the two in question would indicate interest in the party and I would not know, neither would any decision to receive them or not be taken without my knowledge. I, therefore, state that Offor did not act with the consent of the leadership of the party, and her position is misleading and false.”
In his reaction, Ezea, who was with Okoloagu stated: “The reason for such frivolous and embarrassing pronouncement is known and we will deal with such acts within us adequately.
“Before we got to this point of victory for the APC, I, who had been in the party and sought the mandate of Enugu people to be the governor on the party’s platform, had been pleading with Nwobodo and Nnaji over time, as reputable elders with credibility to join our party. In essence, we even wish that they would indicate interest and we will gladly welcome them to the fold because we need members and even quality ones. But if the two respected personalities had in the past rejected entreaties to join our party, why would they be shut out if they want to join the APC? But they never asked anybody that they are interested in joining the party, while we still pray and hope that one day they would make such move.”
Daily Sun also spoke on phone to Dr. Nwoye, the state party chairman, who corroborated the positions of Ezea and Okoloagu, saying none of the two approached the party for membership and were therefore never rejected since they never indicated interest.
He assured that the story, which he described as embarrassing to the party, would be investigated and sanction meted to whoever was behind it. He clarified also that the party was rather on membership drive and could not have rejected any intending member.
