CONSTANTINE-President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika said Thursday in Constantine that the offensive of 20 August 1955 in Northern Constantine and the successful organization, one year later, of the Congress of Soummam "are proof of the consciousness-raising and completion of the dynamics of combatants on domestic and foreign fronts for the recovery of national sovereignty."
These two events "are evidence of the awareness and the culmination of the dynamics of the combatants the domestic and foreign fronts, in keeping with the history of the movement towards a new equilibrium in relations between states and peoples," said President Bouteflika in a message to the nation on the occasion of the celebration of the National Day of Mujahid, read on his behalf by Minister of Culture, Azzedine Mihoubi.
"The uprising of 1955, led by shaheed (martyr) Zighoud Youcef, marked the culmination of the military outbreak of the Revolution of 1 November 1954, the confrontation with enemy and the sacrifices that have reached their climax," said the President.
The Soummam Congress conference at Ifri Ouzellaguen (Bejaia), "is a proof of the intelligence of the revolutionary spirit which helped endow the Revolution with alegislative, institutional and organizational system to lead the fight in its military, social and diplomatic areas and wear down the enemy and its allies," said the Head of State.
