2015: Ashafa Drops Lagos Guber Ambition, Declares Bid To Return To Senate

Gbenga-AshafaThe Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Gbenga Ashafa, on Wednesday declared his ambition to return to the Red Chamber of the National Assembly for a second term come 2015.

It was initially speculated that Sen. Ashafa would be gunning for the Alausa House, Ikeja, after posters depicting him as a governorship aspirant had flooded his constituency and some areas in Lagos.
However, in a statement by his Head of Media, Constituency office, Mr. Babatunde Adegunju, Ashafa declared that he would prefer to return to the Senate.

The statement read in part, “In a bid to give a clear direction on his political ambition which has been the subject of many debates and analyses bordering on the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Lagos state, Senator Ashafa has declared his intention to run for a second term in the 2015 general elections.

“He will be vying for a second term as the Senator to represent Lagos East Senatorial District at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly come February 2015. This public declaration of interest was made known recently during the assembly of the APC apex body in Lagos East Senatorial District, which held at Epe”.

It, however, quoted Ashafa as saying that he reached the conclusion to return to the senate after series of consultations.
“After series of consultations with our political leaders, I have concluded that I will run for a second term in office as a Senator to represent the good people of Lagos East Senatorial District in the Senate come 2015”, Ashafa said.

The statement added that Ashafa, who was elected to the senate in 2011, had surpassed the expectations of the people of Lagos East Senatorial district. It is on record that within a short span of three years, the lawmaker has sponsored a total of 76 Constituency projects in the district.

Some of his laudable achievements can be felt in the areas of Education, Youth Empowerment, Information Communication Technology, ICT, Agriculture, Health and Community Development.
His constituency empowerment programmes have been driven through the Gbenga Ashafa Trust Endowment (G.A.T.E), a charitable vehicle for change.
