Aging former US
President Jimmy Carter had a wide smile across his face as he blew out
three candles representing the past, present and future to celebrate his
90th birthday.
Jimmy Carter his wife, Rosalynn, thanked family, friends and staff at the Carter Centre in Atlanta on Wednesday morning.
The 39th US president, who was in office from 1977 to 1981, joked that “it’s been a good first 90 years.”
He said his childhood in Plains, Georgia, and marrying Rosalynn had most shaped his life.
The couple launched the Carter Centre, an international health and human rights organisation, after leaving the White House.
Carter, who was awarded the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize, is the second-oldest of the five living US presidents.
