IG Orders Audit Of police Armouries Nationwide

PIGP-Suleiman-AbbaThe Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba, has ordered a thorough check and audit of Police armouries nationwide as part of measures to strengthen accountability of the weaponry stock of the Force.

The measure is to enable the Force to review the current state of arms and ammunition in stock at various Police armouries nationwide.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Emmanuel Ojukwu, on Wednesday in Abuja, said the exercise, which has already begun, would cover all police commands, formations, stations and units across the country.
Many Police stations’ armouries had been reportedly ransacked by hoodlums and insurgents, especially in the north-eastern part of the country, where Boko Haram fighters engage security forces in shoot-outs with weapons believed to have been stolen from Police and military armouries.
