Ilaro Mayhem: Amosun Warns Against Introduction Of Violence In Ogun Politics

Following the clash between rival groups in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, Gov. Ibikunle Amosun has urged politicians in the All Progressives Congress, APC, to shun all forms of political thuggery or risk being disqualified by the national leadership of the party.

He gave the warning on Tuesday in Ifo, Ifo Local
Government Area of the state, in continuation of his assessment tour to local governments in the state.
Some hoodlums reportedly engaged in a bloody fight on Monday in a bid to assert their supremacy during the governor’s tour. An unidentified man was said to have died in the ensuing violence.
Amosun said the full wrath of the law would be brought to bear on any politician who engaged in violence, stressing that the era of violence in the state was gone.
He said, “In Ogun State, we do not resort to violence; the era of violence is gone. I was told yesterday (Monday) that something happened after we left Ilaro; we were there like this yesterday and I did not know that anything happened.
“It was when we finished and started going that I was told that some people were fighting.
“Please, nobody should bring violence to Ogun State again. Violence has gone for good in our politics in Ogun State. Anybody that indulges in violence in the state, the full weight of the law would be brought to bear on such people”.
The governor, who is seeking re-election in 2015, said nobody benefits from an atmosphere of violence.
He said, “We will create a level playing field for all contestants, but we will not tolerate anyone who promotes violence.
“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, I will also not allow any party in the state to indulge in violence. The residents of our dear state, who have known peace in the last three years, will jointly resist such”.
