A
Coalition of Northern Youths on Monday in Kaduna State flayed deposed
Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Mustapha Jokolo, for advising President Goodluck
Jonathan to drop Vice President Namadi Sambo as his running mate in 2015
presidential election or risk committing political suicide by retaining
him.
The youths described the comments as “uncharitable”.
National President and Secretary of CNY, Dr. Mohammed Gwandu and David Shandom respectively, in a statement made available to journalists in Kaduna on Monday said it was “unfortunate” such a comment was coming from the deposed emir.
The group noted that ordinarily, it wouldn’t have replied Jokolo but for the sensitive nature of the statement coming at a time when the North was in dire need of unity.
“We are forced to hold this press conference to tell the world that the Vice President, Arch. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, remains our leader in the North and we shall not take it lightly with whoever that wants to disparage him”, they said.
According to the statement, at this point in time, especially when the region is putting its house in order ahead of the 2015 elections, “it is most uncharitable for the deposed emir to assert that our leader, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Arch. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has no political relevance in the north”.
This, the statement continued, was far from the truth because “at the moment, the Vice President is the political leader of the North and nobody that take that away from him. Allah bestowed on him that crown and nobody will take it away”.
It said the youths of the region were worried over the said statement, noting that they expected the deposed emir to use his wealth of experience as to how the declining economic fortunes and the security challenges in the North-East can be brought to an end.
The statement also said the group was not unmindful of some nocturnal meetings that the deposed emir had with some governors from the North-West geopolitical zone so as for one of them to emerge as Jonathan’s running mate in the 2015 election.
“We are aware of all the secret meetings with some state governors so as to change the vice president”, it said.
The group, therefore, warned that it would have no option than to expose the deposed emir should he continue with this antics of “trying to set one group against one another in the region”.
The statement read in part, “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to deposed emir of Gwandu, Mustapha Jokolo that the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Arch.Mohammed Namadi Sambo is a political liabilty to his boss, President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 presidential election.
“The statement is not only unfortunate but most uncharitable, especially coming from a highly respected traditional ruler like Jokolo. We expected traditional ruler like the deposed emir to dwell on what will bring the people of the North together and NOT what will disembered them as people in dire need of unity. Ordinarily we wouldn’t have reacted to this but coming from a highly respected northerner, we are constrained to do so.
“We expect the emir to use his wealth of experience to avail to us on how the north can surmount the problems confronting us at the moment. Problem such as the insecurity in the North-East that had rendered states like Borno, Yobe and Adamawa incapcitated in terms of governance. But here we are, seeing and hearing our own traditional ruling bringing down one of his own.
“We find this statement absurd and uncharitable and we by this press conference warn the deposed Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Mustapha Jokolo, who by his antecedent has unquencheable appetite in derobing his superiors, to remain silence or else, we shall be forced to expose him beyond his imagination.
“We call on the people of the North to ignore the ranting of the deposed emir and rally round the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Arch. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, our leader and the President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to resounding victory in the 2015 presidential election”.
