Niger State Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu explained why October salaries might not be paid on time.
Speaking October 21 in Minna, Aliyu said that the situation might occur because the last federation allocation meeting ended without states sharing any money, Leadership reports.
According to the official, with such development only 5 out of 36 Nigeria’s states will be able to survive the financial crisis in the country. Aliyu attributed the situation to the failure of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to distribute money to the states.
He lamented that it might result in his inability to pay October salaries to Niger State residents on time, which contradicts his promise to always pay salaries to civil servants when due, on the 25th of every month.
Unwilling to threaten welfare of the state people, the governor urged for quick solution to the problem from the FAAC.
States governor should work in cooperation with he private sector to develop aggressive wealth creation strategy in order to cope with the situation facing oil exploration and its sales, especially the vandalization of oil pipeline, Aliyu said.
The finance commissioner Alhaji Hassan Abdullahi also narrated how they ended up feeling disappointed after the FAAC meeting:
“We were in Enugu for three days on the third day they called us into a room and told us to go back because there was no money to share.”
