Kwankwanso, who spoke with journalists in Abuja on Friday evening, said it was also wrong to assume that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has a presidential candidate already, despite the fact that President Jonathan was adopted by the party as its sole candidate for the 2015 presidential elections.
Apart from Kwankwanso, other leading presidential aspirants in the APC are a former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); a former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and founder of the LEADERSHIP Group, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah.
The governor said he would formally declare his presidential bid on October 28, adding that it was difficult for him to secure a venue for the declaration.
But now he said he had paid for the event to hold at the Old Parade Ground, expressing the optimism that owners of the venue would not have second thoughts.
He also revealed that all the aspirants have agreed to work with who ever emerges as the presidential candidate of the APC, saying none of them would jump ship at the end of the primary.
The governor said, “For people like me who have millions of supporters all over the country, I’m not the type that will be jumping from one party to the other. I can’t go back to the PDP.
“One of us, not two or three, will win the primary. All of us are believe that all our candidates are better that the President. If I didn’t get it, in a free and fair primarily, that is ok. None of us is thinking of leaving the party”.
On whether President Jonathan could be said to be the candidate of the PDP, he said no, adding that the president was not even sure whether he could run as the Constitution only specifies the maximum tenure in office for the president to be eight year.
He said if Jonathan runs again having been in office for close to six years now, he would be violating the Constitution in case he wins in 2015.
He said, “If it was certain (that he is the candidate of the PDP), he would have declared long time ago. He keeps on changing the time and dates of his declaration. You know that some people are in court.
“Because he didn’t declare, the court decided to throw the case away. I’m sure that immediately he declares, probably those people will certainly go back to court”.
