Luke Shaw believes Manchester United are becoming a dreaded
side again following last Sunday’s draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Robin van Persie helped Louis van Gaal’s men avoid a third defeat of the season at the hands of leaders Chelsea with just 26 seconds left to the dead of a thrilling encounter in front of home follower.
“It will take time but, when we are all on form, I think we are going to be a scary team to face,” said the 19-year-old, who joined the ‘Red Devils’ from Southampton for a fee believed to be in the region of £30m last summer.
United were without their main striker Radamel Falcao against Chelsea. The Colombian, alongside fellow summer acquisition from Athletic Bilbao, Ander Herrera, could be fit for next Sunday’s Manchester Derby.
Shaw, who could be one of six derby debutantes alongside Falcao and Herrera- though the pair faces fitness test- at the Premier League champions, admits United are yet far from their peak but expects the whole setup to take confidence from the late drama against the high-flying Chelsea at the weekend.
“I don’t think we are playing our best at the moment and sometimes you saw that (against Chelsea),” he said. “Every game in the Premier League is hard but we’ve got to look forward to it this week. It’s a massive occasion for everyone involved in it.
“We’re all looking forward to it. We know what we need to do so we just need to focus on that during this week and come out firing on Sunday.
“The whole word watches it [the derby] – it’s one of the biggest occasions in football after the World Cups and Champions League finals. I’m sure everyone will be watching and we’re looking forward to it.”
United are ten points adrift of Chelsea but the English left-back thinks they can still fight to be at the summit of the standings in May.
Shaw added: “Of course we are still in the title race.”It’s a long season and we are at the start of it. You don’t know what will happen during the middle of the season. There will be tough games but we know we are good enough to win them”
