Barcelona have immortalised their former coach, Tito Vilanova
by naming the principal pitch at the club’s training ground after him.
Vilanova passed on in April 2013 aged 45 after a long battle with
throat cancer. He led Barcelona to a record 100 point tally during his
only season as manager in 2012/13 after succeeding Pep Guardiola, under
whom he enjoyed a trophy-laden four-year as assistant.
“He would have loved to have been here,” said Vilanova’s wife Montse Chaure. “He said it was a privilege to coach the best team in the world and that he loved the players.”
The Catalans’ first team as well as Vilanova’s two children were also in attendance at the Joan Gamper training facility.
