Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira will be sidelined for three weeks with a hamstring injury, the club have announced.
The Germany international suffered the injury during Saturday’s 4-0
thrashing by neighbours Atletico Madrid. He was unable to continue after
the half-time break and was replaced by Jese Rodriguez as Real suffered
their heaviest defeat in four years.
“After tests carried out by the Real Madrid medical team, an injury in his left hamstring has been diagnosed,” the La Liga leaders said on Monday.
He adds to the growing injury concerns at the Santiago Bernebeu joining James Rodriguez, Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Luka Modric in the treatment room. The ex-Stuttgart midfielder is likely to miss upcoming La Liga matches against Deportivo La Coruna, Elche and Villarreal, as well as the first leg of the Uefa Champions League round of 16 clash with home tea Schalke later this month.
Khedira has struggled with a couple of injuries in the past 18 months after suffering a cruciate ligament injury whilst on international duty with Germany in November 2013.
