Nigerians in the diaspora want Jonathan re-elected – TAN

The UK chapter of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) said it has successfully mobilised tens of thousands of Nigerians to support the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.
This was disclosed by its Coordinator, Christian Udechukwu on Monday, February 2, in London during a visit to the Nigerian High Commission, Dalhatu Tafida.

Udechukwu told Tafida, that the nation’s diaspora in the UK had resolved to support the candidacy of President Goodluck Jonathan in view of his administration’s score card.

He explained that the present administration has recorded unprecedented achievements in all sectors of the economy with tangible results in infrastructure development, among others and for this reason, TAN UK, a Non Governmental Organisation, NGO, sought to mobilise support for Jonathan’s re-election.

“This is the first administration in recent time to broaden the accessibility of international travel with direct flights to many airports in the country. It is also the first government to maintain stability in oil pump price, thereby mitigating the effect of fuel cost on Nigerians, the recent N10 pump price reduction is an evidence to that fact,” he said.

“In the area of education, this administration has modernised the Almajiri education and improved welfare schemes,’’ he added.

He noted that all these achievements informed the decision of the diaspora to vote Jonathan for continuity and stability in governance.

“Nigerians abroad are mobilising their families and associates in the country to vote the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Continuity and stability remain key to good governance and progress,” he stressed.

Also Tafida, who applauded the TAN initiative, urged members to continue to sensitise Nigerians on Jonathan’s achievements, especially those eligible to vote.

Tafida, who also served as Jonathan’s Campaign Director General in 2011, admitted that the task of mobilising Nigerians to vote PDP was achievable, and urged TAN to make it happen.

While answering questions from members on diaspora voting, Tafida said the issue was a constitutional one which was being addressed at the appropriate quarters.
