According to reports, Boko Haram insurgents have abducted over 400 women and children from Damasak town in Borno State, yesterday, March 24, 2015.
Earlier this month, Damasak was freed by the troops from Niger and Chad.
According to Reuters, the residents of the town confirmed the abduction. The exact number of people abducted in the town are yet to be confirmed, however sources said it’s over 400.
A trader named Souleymane Ali told reporters that “they took 506 young women and children (in Damasak). They killed about 50 of them before leaving, We don’t know if they killed others after leaving, but they took the rest with them.”
Ali also said his wife and three daughters were among those seized.
“Two of them were supposed to get married this year. (Boko Haram) said ‘They are slaves so we’re taking them because they belong to us’,”
Another trader named Mohamed Ousmane said that the militants took three of his children and his two wives.
A resident in the town named Fana said the terrorists rounded up captives and took them to the main mosque for taking them out of town, She was able to save her two children from being abducted by hiding them in her house.
