Police arraign five persons over former Akwa Ibom Deputy Speaker’s death

Four persons including the Vice Chairman of Ukanafun Local Government, Mr Effiom Abaiwere were yesterday arraigned before a Magistrate court sitting in Ufanafun by the police in Akwa Ibom State over the death of the former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Obong Okon Uwah, and an All Progressives Congress candidate for Ukanfun state Constituency in the forthcoming election.

Those arraigned alongside the Vice Chairman include, Endurance Marcus Udoh, Godwin Moses Udon,Akaniyene Benson Brown, and Simon Dan Udoikpe.


However, the suspects were ordered to be remanded in prison custody at Ikot Ekpene till the case will be reassigned to a higher court since the court has no jurisdiction to handle the case, the Chief Magistrate, Charles akpan noted that, ‘’ In view of the gravity of the offence, the court has no jurisdiction to hear the matter and has ordered it to be taken to the high court’’.
Consequently, Magistrate Akpan ordered that the case file be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution,DPP.

It was gathered that the former Deputy Speaker was last week hacked to death at Nkek Village in Ukanafun Local Government Area of the State during a door-to-door campaign.
