No fewer than 11 persons have been arrested and 53.41kgs of cannabis sativa confiscated between January and March this year. This is according to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Seme Command.
The disclosure came on Wednesday by the commandant, Mr Essien Udotong during a media briefing in Badagry.
According to the Commandant, three of the suspects have been prosecuted.
Udotong noted “Within the period under review, the command arrested 11 suspects and seized 53.41kgs of cannabis sativa imported from Ghana as well as $23,915.

“All suspects have been charged to court, but three drug suspects have been convicted and sentenced to various terms of imprisonment.
“Five drug-dependent persons were also counselled on the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.
“Apart from making arrests, we also counsel drug addicts to let them know the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.”
He further noted that the command was able to apprehend the drug pushers after thorough investigation and intelligent reports.
The Commandant said, “Many of these traffickers conceal the drugs in different ways and one has to be conscious because they could be smart.
“We have had cases of people concealing drugs in cartons of noodles, sachets of detergent and wrapping them in brown envelopes.
“With all these strategies, it takes intelligence report and investigative tracking to be able to apprehend these suspects.”
Udotong also used the opportunity to applaud other security agencies for the partnership and relationship built with the Command.
“I salute the hard work and commitment of officers in the command in the fight against drug trafficking, and I also commend the cooperation from sister agencies most especially the Nigeria Customs.
“The traditional institution in Badagry has been very supportive and it must be commended also,”
