The Majority Leader, Alhaji Musa Mahmud, made this known yesterday in Yola while speaking to newsmen in the state capital.
He said the lawmakers made the sacrifice willingly in view of the financial condition of the state.
“It is okay for my colleagues and me. We are set for the 50 per cent cut in our salary”, Mahmud said.
Also speaking, the Assembly’s Minority Leader, Mrs Justina Nkom, said the pay cut was a welcome development that deserved the support of members.
“It is a service to our state and I see no problem in that”, Nkom said.
Malam Abdulrahman Abubakar (APC-Mubi North) and Mr Ayuba Kwada (APC-Michika) said the gesture was acceptable to them as representatives of the people who needed to make sacrifice in their interest.
“This is part of the selfless service we promised the electorate; as representatives of the people, no sacrifice is too much to make.
“All politicians and political office holders need to make this sacrifice.
“Only civil servants should be spared based on the fact that their salary is just not enough”, Abubakar said. (NAN)
