West Ham are putting together ambitious plans to try and sign loanee Alex Song permanently – for free.
The 27-year-old made 28 appearances for the club after completing a temporary switch from Barcelona last August, but Hammers’ chiefs are now looking to tie down the former Arsenal midfielder to a long-term deal.
Song’s employers are keen to recoup around £5million from any transfer, but The Sun are suggesting West Ham are looking for the player to accept a reduced pay-off from the Catalan giants in return for a three or four year contract which would eventually cover such losses.
The Cameroon international has two years left to run on his contract in Spain, which is worth an estimated £70,000-per-week.
Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City are also said to be keen on Song.
