Despite Obama’s Insistence, Kenyatta Calls Gay Rights “Non-Issue”


President Obama is currently on his first visit to his father’s homeland as President. His trip to Kenya has been greeted with excitement and enthusiasm despite CNN’s labeling of Kenya as a “terror hotbed” which sparked considerable outrage on Twitter.


President Obama’s talking points with Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta has comprised of corruption as well as the civil war in Sudan.

President Obama spoke on gay rights, he said;
“When you start treating people differently, not because of any harm they’re doing anybody but because they’re different, that’s the path whereby freedoms begin to erode. The idea that they are going to be treated differently or abused because of who they love is wrong” 

President Kenyatta on his path disagreed and considered gay rights a “non-issue”; “For Kenyans today, the issue of gay rights is a non issue. We want to focus on other areas which are day to day”
