A pan Nigerian youth organization, the Youth of Nigeria, TYON, ended its meeting in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State on Monday, drumming support for President Muhammadu Buhari.
The youths, made up of different ethnic nationalities in Nigeria, also urged the President to carry all the zones along in his appointments.
In a communique signed by Eric Oluwole and Emmanuel Zopmal, protem Secretary and Deputy Public Relations Officer, respectively, the group restated its objective “which is to foster the unity and progress of Nigeria through inter-ethnic mutual understanding and interfacing”.
The communique read further that, “the group congratulated President Mohammadu Buhari for the way he has piloted the affairs of the nation so far, in particular his avowed determination to recover all looted funds within and outside the country.
“The group saluted the leadership of the National Assembly led by Senator Bukola Saraki in the Senate and Hon Yakubu Dogara, in the House of Representatives for their capacity, maturity and ability to douse the differences in the National Assembly and move the nation forward.
“The Group appealed to Mr President to carry all parts of the nation along in his appointments and projects to give them a sense of belonging. They in particular made a case for the South East zone of Nigeria which feels sidelined in the scheme of things so far.
“The group decried the pathetic condition of the Ancient city of Aba after touring different parts of the city. They wondered how the once bubbling city came to the sorry state they saw it. The groups called on the federal government to declare a state of emergency on that city noting that the government of Abia state does not have the resources to reverse the fortunes of the city.
“The group also called on the federal to look into the infrastructural deficiencies in other key and ancient cities in Nigeria such as Ibadan, Kaduna, Porthacourt, Zaria and others. They commended the federal government for its effort to sustain the peace in the Niger Delta and cleanse the oil spill in Ogoniland. They also commended the renewed effort to address the perennial insurgency in the North East of the country, hoping that the canker-worm will soon be a thing of the past.
“They congratulated the Youths of Nigeria on the occassion of the International Youth day and called on all Nigerian Youths to remain steadfast and committed to the unity and progress of the nation.
“The group called on all Nigerians to remain united and join hands with the Buhari regime to bring peace and progress in the country.They scheduled their next Retreat in November at Zaria, Kaduna state.
“At the retreat, the Ohanaeze Youth President Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro was nominated as the Protem National Chairman, Mr Eric Oluwole, President of Yoruba Youth Council of Nigeria emerged the National Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Zopmal of Middle belt Youths Forum is the Deputy PRO. The post of the National Deputy Chairman was zoned to the North and PRO to the South-South”.
