Channing Tatum paid tribute on Monday to First SergeantPeter Andrew McKenna, a soldier he had previously met, who was killed by enemy fire during an attack on a NATO facility in Afghanistan on Saturday. Tatum met McKenna this past February while the actor was visiting his army base during a USO tour.

“I’d like to offer my deepest condolences to the family of First Sergeant Peter Andrew McKenna, a brave soldier we had the honor of meeting in Afghanistan,” Tatum wrote next to an Instagram photo of himself and McKenna. “He tragically lost his life in an attack on one of the bases we visited on @theuso tour back in February. Let’s always remember to thank the men and women who serve this county and so often sacrifice their own lives for ours.”
Tatum was joined by his Magic Mike XXL co-star Adam Rodriguez and actor Nick Zano during the USO tour, which had the actors visit seven army bases, the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan, and spend time with more than 1,500 troops. The late Sgt. McKenna, a 17-year Army veteran, was among the many soldiers with whom Tatum and the other stars posed for photos.
