Security has been beefed up at the scouts’ camping site at Kaazi, Makindye-Ssabagabo in Wakiso District days to the marking of 100 years of scouting in Uganda.Mr Namanya said the residents in the areas will be subjected to some controls especially on the routes they will use during the festivities. “We also expect residents in the area to cooperate with us when we restrict access to some of routes they have often used,” Mr Namanya added. The Scout Movement was founded in 1907 by Robert Baden-Powell (1857-1941), a soldier and artist who started with 20 boys in a camp. In 2007, the Movement celebrated its centenary and the 21st World Scout Jamboree was held in the UK. Scouting is a movement that aims to support young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, that they may play constructive roles in society, with a strong focus on the outdoors and survival skills At least six heads of state, including President Museveni, are expected to attend the 10-day Jamboree from August 18 to August 28, 2015. The security was beefed up after a meeting between chiefs from Kampala Metropolitan Police and other security agencies at Kaazi on Tuesday. Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Mr Benjamin Namanya, said they expect 15,000 participants from all over Africa and the entire world to attend the event. “ Over 163 African scout associations have been invited. We have been meeting security agencies so that we can coordinate very well to ensure that visitors and area residents are secure,” Mr Namanya said. A Jamboree is a large gathering of scouts often in a camp. It is often done at a national or international level. He said security will be visible on Lake Victoria and in the camp for the safety of the children scouts who will attend the Jamboree. Kaazi Scout camps cover parts of the Lake Victoria shores.
