Everything was going on as usual in the wee hours of Sunday morning until the death of one of its clients, John Ahimbisibwe alias Jonnie, in a confrontation with a one Ivan Kamyuka, 33, an incident that left many revellers puzzled.
Mr Ahimbisibwe reportedly sustained a cut from a broken glass in the neck, leaving him bleeding to death. Police was alerted and it managed to arrest Mr Kamyuka as the lead suspect in the killing before arraigning him in court.
Appearing in the chambers of Nakawa Magistrate’s Court, Grade One Magistrate Christine Nantege read one count of murder to the suspect.
However, Ms Nantege did not allow him to take plea as the offence he is charged with is capital in nature and can only be heard before the High Court.
Prosecution, led by Mr Julius Atuhairwe, states that Mr Kamyuka on August 2, 2015, at Club Guvnor, First Street, Industrial Area, Central Division in Kampala District, with malice aforethought, unlawfully killed Ahimbisibwe.
The magistrate ordered the suspects to be remanded to Luzira prison until August 18, for committal once investigations are complete.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Mr Patrick Onyango, earlier told Daily Monitor the club management had cooperated with police by providing closed circuit television (CCTV) footage that will help them establish whether the incident was premeditated crime of passion.
The police said they are stil analysing the footage of the scuffle between the suspect and the deceased.
This is the first case that has led to death at the nightclub since it was opened in 2010.
The club management regretted the incident on its social media platforms, describing the act as tragic.
