The Nigeria Celebrities for Charity Awards is an annual event of
World Hope Foundation, a Nigeria/USA based organisation created to
inspire celebrities, corporate organisations, and everyday citizens to
become involved in the generous act of giving. The recipient will
receive a creatively designed "Hands of Love" statuette with their name
and award category engraved on 19th August of every year to commemorate
the World Humanitarian Day.
At a well attended event at Oriental Hotel Lekki, Lagos the First Edition took place on the 19th August 2015 in which NIKKI
LAOYE, a singer/humanitarian received the inaugural edition as the
Humanitarian Personality of the Year 2015 in recognition of her sincere
devotion to humanitarian causes in the Country via her Angel 4 Life
Foundation, an organisation committed to supporting the development and
empowerment of people with disabilities (visually impaired and
physically challenged youths) and people of National Concern (Internally
Displaced Persons & Refugees).
After two
years of research on Nigerian Celebrities working on Humanitarian
causes, World Hope Foundation identified singer/humanitarian, Nikki
Laoye as the most consistent celebrity serving on the field for the
past five years with some of her foundation’s projects including The
Isaac Olushola Educational Project for Students with Disabilities &
The Buy A Cane Project (a mobility aid project for the visually impaired
community).
World Hope Foundation also noted
her recent role as the Celebrity Voice for federal government agency,
NCFRMI SouthWest (National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and
Internally Displaced Persons) in which Nikki
Laoye and her foundation have been working with NCFRMI and other
agencies via their humanitarian projects - "The Angel Relief Fund -
TARF" and “School Without Walls Project” to further support the ongoing
relief works for families displaced by the Boko Haram terror attacks
from Northern Nigeria by providing food, clothes, medical supplies and
also supporting the education of the children as they rebuild their
lives in IDP camps across Nigeria.
The Gold plated "Hands of Love" Award plaque was presented to Nikki
Laoye by Mr Fola Kudehinbu, MD Fountain Initiative for Social
Development (FISD) and supported by the main speaker of the event, Mr
Oyebisi Oluseyi, Executive Director, Nigeria Network of NGOs and Mr
Oludotun Olugbemi(CEO/Founder, World Hope Foundation).
This is Nikki
Laoye’s third humanitarian award in recognition of her passion and
service as an advocate for people with disabilities and persons of
National concern (Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees).
Also
Present at the event also were the MC, Mrs Florence Karl Ogwu; Mr
Babajide Abiola, Founder, 10 Codes Services; Madam Magaret Ukegbu
(NCFRMI SouthWest Zonal Head) and some of NCFRMI staff; Mrs Yetunde
Laoye (Nikki's mum); Mr Alexander Oturu (Nikki's
husband); Barrister Tunde Laoye (CEO, L&A Legal Consultants/Wahala
Media Entertainment); Nelson Ekperi (Music Consultant/Project Manager,
Angel 4 Life Foundation) and representatives of different NGOs and
Charity organisations.
