The National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) has introduced a newly- improved national service certificate of exemption and letter of exclusion.
Speaking while unveiling the certificates yesterday, the director-general of NYSC, Brig-Gen Johnson Olawumi, stated that with effect from 2014 Batch C, the national service certificate would bear passport photographs of corps members at the upper right hand corner of the certificate.

The DG, who was represented by the acting director, certification in the scheme, Alhaji Aliu Daura, said that   the presence of the photograph would guarantee security and help prevent forgery and impersonation.
“Therefore, Batch C 2014 corps members who are due to pass out on Thursday October 15, 2015, will have their certificates embossed with their photograph,” he said.
He also explained that the certificate of exemption which are issued to full-time graduates who are above 30 at the time of graduation or members of staff of the security agencies, and recipient of national presidential honours awards, would also include the candidate’s passport photograph.
Olawumi also stated that part-time, distance and sandwich programme graduates who have been excluded from serving by the federal government would commence the printing out of their letters of exclusion with effect from Batch B 2015 commencing from October 28, 2015.
It is expected that all part-time graduates whose date were submitted at NYSC by their institutions will register online and print their letters of exclusion bearing their photograph at the upper left hand corner of the letter,” he said.
He urged employers who are in doubt about any certificate to forward it to the scheme for verification of its authenticity adding that effort was being made to make the verification of these certificates to be automated for easy access by the public.
