Well, Jose Mourinho told the world that he had no intention of following in the footsteps of Guardiola and Ancelotti and take a break from football as he was looking to get back in the dugout as soon as possible after being fired by Chelsea. Manchester United are reportedly set to offer the former Inter Milan manager that opportunity.
It is no secret that the entire Old Trafford is fed up with Van Gaal and his “philosophy” which has so far seen them knocked out of the champions league in the first round and go 5 matches without a win for the first time in 17 years. There was a huge sigh of relief this weekend around Old Trafford and it wasn’t because Manchester United picked up a point, it was because Jose Mourinho, a manager whom the club flirted with following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 was available on the market again. Despite being humiliated out of Chelsea, Mourinho still looks a better option than Van Gaal, his intensity, his drive his will to win and the small matter of the three premier league titles he has already won make him a manager that Manchester United would turn to when they eventually, inevitably fire Van Gaal. Mourinho on his part has made it no secret that he wants to join Manchester United.
According to the UK Sun, Manchester United have made contact with Mourinho’s representatives and both parties are talking about the Portuguese tactician replacing Van Gaal, a man he used to interpret for at Barcelona in coming weeks. Mourinho, being the vindictive man he is made out to be would love to take the helm at Old Trafford before the 29 of December when Manchester United meet Chelsea just so he can get one over Abramovic.
One thing is certain, Van Gaal would be fired. Whether Manchester United would hire Mourinho or not remains to be seen.
