Football fans all over the world have been left wondering whether or not FIFA accidentally leaked the winners of the latest Ballon d’Or award, due to be distributed next week.
Earlier today, the game’s governing body posted a list of the male and female winners, citing Leo Messi and Celia Sasic as the victorious duo, before swiftly taking the post down.
The glitzy award ceremony is due to take place in Switzerland on January 11, but no one would be surprised should Messi and Sasic scoop the top prizes.
The Barcelona forward scored a whopping 48 goals and was instrumental as the Catalan club won an historic treble in 2015, as well as the Club World Cup.
And Sasic was top scorer in the Women’s World Cup with Germany, and claimed the Champions League with club side Frankfurt. She actually retired in June last year, so claiming the female edition of football's biggest individual prize would be a fitting end to a glittering career.
FIFA have yet to comment on the apparent blunder – they’re probably a bit tied up with other things.
