Gerard Pique believes Sergi Roberto could be cut out for a career in goal in the future given his impressive versatility for Barcelona this season.
The Spanish 23-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season at the club so far, appearing 26 times across seven different positions.
That has included spells at right-back, right-wing, left-back and left-wing as well as defensive and advanced roles in his more natural centre midfield position.
It’s testament to how good a player he is that he’s managed so many games in a team spoiled for choice in so many positions.
Just last night his manager praised Roberto’s ability to adapt to many positions following his performance in Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey.
Now it’s Pique’s turn to praise his team-mate.
The Spanish legend had a short Q&A on Twitter last night where he answered almost every question in Spanish.
But one response came in English – and it concerned Roberto’s ability to play in goal one day:
Given the rate at which Roberto is moving through every other position, it wouldn’t surprise us to see him fill in if anything happened to goalkeepers Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Claudio Bravo or Jordi Masip.
Roberto was in the team which fought for that 2-1 quarter-final first leg win away at San Mames last night, which sets them up nicely for the return leg.
