The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) on Wednesday, sacked its Acting National Chairman, Haliru Bello Mohammed and announced the appointment of its Secretary, Senator Walid Jubrin as his replacement pending another election to pick a substantive chairman.

Haliru Bello is currently standing trial for his alleged involvement in the $2.1 billion arms purchase scam, allegedly spearheaded by the immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki, who is also standing trial over the scam.

The decision changing the leadership of the BoT was conveyed by Jibrin at a briefing in Abuja on Wednesday. It was also listed in a communiqué issued after a meeting of the BoT held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

Briefing newsmen yesterday on the outcome of their meeting in Abuja, the Secretary of BoT, now the acting chairman, Jubrin explained that the board unanimously appointed him to act, while still remaining the substantive secretary.

Asked why the BoT decided to hold its meeting against the directive of NWC, Jubrin said the board takes its decision as a special organ of the party.

"The BoT has already called for this meeting. It is a special organ that regulates its activities. We can take our own decision. We will still attend next week’s meeting."

On why the board decided to remove Mohammed , Jubrin said his tenure had already expired.
