A
32-year-old lady has committed suicide at Bar Village of Bogoro local
government area in Bauchi state over alleged accusation of witchcraft
levelled against her by people of the village.
The body of the deceased identified as Katherine Zamani was found hanging on a tree in the Village.
According
to Daily Independent, the residents of Bar Village woke-up on Thursday
with shock as they found the body of the lady on a tree.
It was
learnt that the lady got married twice and all her husbands died and she
was accused of being a witch and decided to end the controversy by
killing herself.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy
Superintendent of Police (DSP) Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident,
saying a Councillor representing Bar Ward in Bogoro Local Government,
Mr. Emmanuel Madaki, reported the incident to Bogoro Police station.
He
added that Madaki told the police that the incident occurred at about
6:23 am and that the lady hanged herself on a branch of a tree.
According
to him, the police rushed her to General Hospital Bogoro where she was
confirmed dead by a medical doctor and that they are still investigating
the cause of the death.
Some of the residents said they don’t
know her very well but believed that her action may not be unconnected
with frustration of life.
Some wondered why such a pretty lady
would kill herself, saying she may have been killed and hung on the tree
by either her enemies or she actually committed suicide.
In
another development, the Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a
36-year-old teacher for intimidating and extorting money from residents
in the state.
Mohammed also made this known to newsmen in Bauchi
He
said “On the 12th of November 2014 at about 3pm, operatives attached to
Bauchi Police Command arrested one Auwal Adamu, popularly called
“GOSKA”
“The suspect who teaches at Jahun Primary School in
Bauchi, usually extort money from his victims by threatening to
eliminate them under the false pretext of belonging to a terrorist
group”
“So far, the suspect has extorted huge amount of money
from prominent personalities in Bauchi state who keep money at a
designated locations”, the PPRO said
The police spokesman said the suspect will be charged to court after investigation.
