Ex-SSG, Umana, Wins Akwa Ibom APC Guber Primaries

umana umanaA former Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Mr. Umana Okon Umana, has emerged winner of the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state despite just formally defecting to the party from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, about a week ago.
Shortly after he was declared winner in the elections held at the old Uyo stadium, thousands of Mr. Umana’s supporters trooped to his private residence for a victory party that lasted till the early hours of Friday.

The APC governorship candidate dedicated his victory to God and attributed his win to the resilience of the Akwa Ibom people.
According to a former deputy governorship candidate in the 2011 elections, Dr. Ime Umanah, who was among supporters that thronged Mr. Umana’s residence, the victory “signalled the beginning of a revolution to free Akwa Ibom people from the slavery of the last eight years under Godswill Akpabio”.
He, therefore, urged all supporters of the party to mend their differences and go all out during the elections proper and ensure that Mr. Umana was elected as governor of Akwa Ibom State come February 28, 2015.
Mr. Umana was in the contest against a former minister of state for Federal Capital Territory, Akpan Udoedehe, and a former military adminsitrator of Rivers State, Sam Enwang. Coincidentally, both men were at Mr. Umana’s formal defection ceremony to the APC last week.
