Three Graduates Arrested In Ogun State For Snatching Car, Abusing Owner


A group of various school graduates were captured and arrested in Ogun State by the joint team of the Ogun State Police Command and the Security Initiative codenamed Operation Mesa (OP Mesa) for being involved in vehicle stealing.

The suspected armed robbers, all young graduates, were arrested on February 4 at the Ibafo area of Ogun State at about 8.30pm after robbing and snatching a Toyota Highlander at Festac Town, Lagos. The names of the suspects are Amuche Chukwuemeka (the “leader” of the group, 22, a graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri in Imo State), Blessing Edottie (26, from Bayelsa State) and Santos Peter (25, from Delta State).

Saturday’s statement by the Ogun State Police PR Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had it that the suspects were on top speed after the operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. In their bid to escape, they were intercepted by the joint operation teams.
“The suspected armed robbers had kidnapped the owner of the snatched car and moved with the car before they dropped him along the road, having used him to operate the security device fixed on the said car,” Mr. Adejobi said.
“The vehicle was demobilised and stopped at a point along the expressway,  but the suspects hired the services of a rewire [technician] to start the engine again,and continued their movement before the arrest.
The PPRO said the suspects had confessed to the crime and were cooperating with the police.
The acting Commissioner of Police in the state, Haliru Gwandu, has ordered that the case be transferred to Lagos State Police Command for proper investigation.
