Benue Workers To Smile Soon As State Govt. Moves To Offset 3 Months Salary Arrears

Gabriel-SuswamThe Benue State Government on Tuesday said that it will soon commence the payment of the three months salaries being owed workers in the state.
The state government had earlier explained that the inability to pay the workers was due to the harmonisation of all workers’ salaries in the state to accommodate the grievance of primary school teachers.
It would be recalled that primary school teachers in the state’s employ had earlier embarked on strike to protest their exclusion from the national minimum wage package.

Giving an update on the matter in Makurdi, the state capital, Commissioner for Information, Justin Amase, said ongoing negotiations between government and the civil servants representatives to work out a new salary structure that will be acceptable to both parties, have reached an advanced stage and payment will commence soon.
“I can assure the workers that government will commence payment of salaries very soon, as we speak now, they are already processing the salaries”, he said.
Governor Gabriel Suswam, recently, also had cause to appeal to the civil servants to endure the pains, adding that the situation will be normalized soon.
