Coach Edwin Okon does not expect South Africa to be second time lucky in their meeting with Nigeria in the semi-finals of the African Women Championship.
Nigeria’s ‘Super Falcons’ progressed to the last 4 of the ongoing women’s biennial championship with a 100 per cent record and a win over South Africa on Wednesday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek grants them an outright ticket for next year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup in Canada.
Okon said his ladies are ready to gain a revenge for their 1-0 loss to the ‘Bayana Bayana’ at the same stage of the 2012 edition in Equatorial Guinea.

The winner of the semi-final encounter will automatically grab one of the three tickets available for the continent to the 2015 World Cup in Canada. Six-time AWC winners Nigeria finished a distant fourth last term in Equatorial Guinea after losing their play-off match 0-1 to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.
Okon added: “We must win the clash as it is quite important to our qualification for the World Cup in Canada. We want to reclaim the AWC title we lost to Equatorial Guinea in 2012 and head to the World Cup as champions.
“We’ve achieved 100 per cent record in our group matches; we must win to re-establish our superiority over the Southern African side.”
