NAFDAC Workers Suspend Nationwide Strike For 10 Days

NAFDACHealth workers at the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC have suspended their nationwide strike after 14 days.
Announcing the suspension yesterday at a rally, which took place at the NAFDAC office in Lagos State, the Chairman, Medical Health Workers Union, Federal Area Council, Comrade Stephen Ibe, however, warned that members would down tools again should the Federal Government renege on its own part of the agreement in the next 10 days.
Mr. Ibe said the strike was suspended following the fruitful deliberation the union had with government officials at the Salary and Wages Commission, the Ministry of Labour and Productivity and NAFDAC’s board of directors.

“We are giving them an opportunity to review and implement a new salary structure for NAFDAC workers. They have asked for 10 days and we are willing to give them that. The strike has been suspended and work resumes on Monday.
“We were pushed to the wall. We are a responsible union, but if government reneges on its decision to review the salary structure, we will continue the industrial action”, he stated.
Ibe also asked for one week grace for members of staff that have been shortlisted for promotion at the agency, saying the notice for the examinations was too sudden.
Recall that workers at the agency had embarked on the nationwide strike on November 12 over unresolved wage structure and unpaid allowances by the Federal Government.
