The Peoples Democratic Progress National Youth Vanguard has set a new campaign trend by distributing bags of customized President Goodluck Jonathan rice.
The electioneering campaign in Nigeria is throwing up a lot of funny stuff with politicians and their managers trying to outdo one another in the area of creativity.
The trend of sharing food items like rice, milk, beverages and other edible items dates back to the second republic where politicians distributed such items.
But the modern day politicians have gone a step further by sharing customized items including recharge cards, towels, palm oil, palm wine and bottled water.
It will be recalled that With less than 12 days to the rescheduled February 14 presidential election, Kashamu Buruji has reportedly stormed Ogun State with thousands of bags of rice inscribed with President Goodluck Jonathan’s picture.
Meanwhile, the stratagem of presenting bags of rice to hungry residents to lure them to vote might not be unconnected with the stomach infrastructure popularised by the Ekiti state governor, Peter Ayodele Fayose, a development that was recently replicated by former Lagos state governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who reportedly gave out bags of rice, salt, vegetable oil, T-shirts and cash to many residents of the state
