The Welshman has praised the coach for his leadership
and believes the 63-year-old offers a close experience to how the club
was run before David Moyes' arrival
Ryan Giggs believes "fearless" Louis van Gaal replicated Sir Alex Ferguson’s leadership in his first season at Manchester United.Following David Moyes’ turbulent 10 months at Old Trafford - which resulted in United ending seventh in the Premier League - Van Gaal was able to guide the club to a fourth-placed finish in his debut campaign.
And Giggs, Van Gaal’s assistant at Old Trafford, claims the 63-year-old has offered the same qualities as Ferguson and feels United benefit from the Dutchman’s leadership in key matches.
"It was nothing new in terms of the detail, the hunger, the professionalism, the experience. I’d seen the same with Sir Alex," Giggs told the Sunday Times.
"But there were little innovations that you’re seeing for the first time as a coach, where you thought ‘that’s brilliant.’ And just the overall experience. Especially in the big games.
"You saw someone who wasn’t afraid – or who didn’t show it – and showed what he can do tactically, and in his overall leadership. Everyone at the club – the staff, the players – know who the leader is. And that’s Louis."
