Governor Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State, Wednesday appointed a Special Assistant on Persons with Disability. This seems to be in reaction to the threat by beggars in the state to bring down his government.
A statement signed by Samuel Aruwan, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the governor, disclosed that El-Rufai has appointed Aliyu Muhammed Salisu as his Special Assistant on Persons with Disability.
Salisu, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), hails from Sabon Gari, Zaria.
He holds a diploma in Special Education from the Kaduna Polytechnic and another diploma in Guidance and Counseling from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He is a member of the National Association of the Blind and has worked at the Kaduna State Rehabilitation Centre. He is the chairman of the Braille Production Centre in Kaduna.
Recalled that beggars in the state on Monday threatened to bring down El-Rufai government if he fails to reverse the ban on begging or provide alternative means of income, stressing that they used proceeds from begging to enthrone him as the governor of the state.
“We decided to support El Rufai, because we were tired of the then Governor, (Mukhtar Ramalan Yero) who did not show any regards to our survival. We worked hard, spent money and prayed and God heard our prayers and brought down Yero.
“Now, it would appear that we made a mistake. The new governor wants to bring us down. He does not want us to live. He has chased us out of the streets and has made no alternative arrangement for our survival.
“We are asking the governor to rescind this decision now or find ways to meet our basic needs.

“If he refuses to heed to this demand, we shall make sure we bring down his government. We are not going to pray that he dies, even if he wishes us so. We are not going to say that he should be impeached, because we voted him to power. What we will do is to hand him over to the Almighty God, and we know he will remove him the same way he removed the former person. We are servants of God, and he always hear our cry,”

The governor had earlier reduced the 32 ministries in the state to 13 to reduced the cost of governance.
In a letter to the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Aminu Shagali, yesterday El-Rufai requested the legislators to consider and approve the nominees.
The governor also indicated the portfolios of the nominees to facilitate a transparent screening process.
Those nominated according to a statement by the Media Assistant to the governor, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, include Prof. Jonathan Andrew Nok for ministry of Health and Human Services, Hajiya Rabi M.G. Abdulsalam, Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr. Suleiman Aliyu Lere,
Water Resources, Muhammed Sani Abdullahi, Budget and Planning and
Dr. Manzo Daniel Maigari, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
