Attahiru Jega, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral
Commission today bowed out of office after five years at the helm of
affairs of the electioneering body. At a brief ceremony at the INEC
headquarters, Jega handed over to a national commissioner, Mohammed Wali
from Sokoto state, who becomes acting chairman of the commission.
Mr Jega succeeded Maurice Iwu upon appointed by former President
Goodluck Jonathan in June, 2010. Mr Jega conducted the 2011 and 2015
general elections. He is also the first INEC chairman to conduct two
general elections in Nigeria’s history.
