ALGIERS-The Algerian system of access to care and the free services provided constitutes a "model" on Thursday stressed Regional Director General of the Arab States of UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), Mohamed Abdel Ahad, said a statement from the Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform.
"The Algerian system and access to free care is a model," he said during the hearing granted to him b Minister Abdelmalek Boudiaf, during which "the two sides discussed various points of bilateral cooperation," the source added.
While stressing "the results achieved in various areas of health especially for the Mother-Child binomial are a benchmark for the entire region," the official expressed his wish to "see the Algeria further promote its expertise in this area at least in the African and Arab regions."
He underscored his "conviction" that Algeria is close to achieving the Millennium Development Goals, wishing to see Algeria "participate in the next international meeting on +safe motherhood+", to be held in Turkey in October.
A ministerial meeting will follow the meeting on the same topic a month later, still in Turkey, bringing together the Member States of the Islamic Conference.
"The Minister of Health asked the UNFPA Representative to transmit to the Executive Director of the Fund an invitation to pay an official visit to Algeria," concludes the statement of the Ministry.
