ALGIERS-Seven (7) smugglers of different nationalities were arrested Thursday by detachments of the People's National Army (ANP) in the extreme south of the country as part of border security and the fight against organized crime, the Ministry of National Defence announced Friday in a statement.
"As part of border security and the fight against organized crime, a detachment of the National People's Army under the operational area of Illizi (4th military region) arrested one (1) smuggler on 13 August 2015 and seized an all-train vehicle loaded with 32 bottles of butane gas, a quantity of clothes and food, two (2) mobile phones and a sum of money estimated at 319.000 dinars," the statement said.
"At the 6th military region, a detachment under the operational area of Tamanrasset apprehended six (6) smugglers of different nationalities and seized one (1) all-terrain vehicle and five (5) metal detectors," the same source added.
Moreover, "the elements of Border Guards of Bab El Assa, under the operational sector of Tlemcen, seized at the 2nd military region a quantity of 1,320 liters of fuel for smuggling," the statement said.
"Besides, 30 kg of cannabis were seized by elements of the National Gendarmerie under the operational area of Ain TĂ©mouchent," the source stated.
