ALGIERS- The dangers and excesses of the religious extremism as well as the need for imams and ulemas to counter extremist thoughts were the main focus of the audience granted Sunday by the Speaker of the Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament) Abdelkader Bensalah to the Grand Mufti of Syria Sheikh Ahmad Badreddine Hassoune.
Bensalah broached with Syria’s Grand mufti the “dangers and excesses of religious extremism which threatens peoples’ security and their economic potentialities,” according to a communiqué of the Council of the Nation.
The talks focused on the “need for ulemas and imams to counter the extremist thoughts by presenting Islam in its true civilizational image.”
The two sides also broached the “situation in Syria and the security and economic difficulties facing the Syrian people,” added the communiqué.
