ALGIERS- Fifteen (15) smugglers and eleven (11) illegal immigrants were arrested Sunday in the south of the country by the elements of the People’s National Army (ANP) and the National Gendarmeries, said Monday the National Defence Ministry in a communiqué.
“As part of securing borders and fighting organized crime, a detachment of the People’s National Army coming under the operational sector of Djanet (4th military region) arrested, on 9 August 2015, fifteen (15) smugglers and seized one (01) all-terrain vehicle, one (01) rifle with telescopic
sight, a quantity of munitions, five (05) metal detectors, one (01) pneumatic drill, two (02) generators and four (04) mobile phones. Also, eight (08) illegal immigrants were arrested in Illizi,” said the source.
“ At the level of the 6th military region, a detachment coming under the operational sector of Bordj Badji Mokhtar seized two (02) lorries, 17.5 tonnes of foodstuffs and a quantity of fuel totalling 9,600 litres for smuggling,” said the source, adding that “ the elements of the National Gendarmerie of Adrar (3rd military region) arrested three (03) illegal immigrants.”
