A western Pennsylvania man has pleaded guilty to robbing a bank with a fake bomb made out of phone wires, duct tape and a s*x toy.
Aaron Stein
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the man, Aaron Stein pleaded guilty to charges including robbery, aggravated assault and making bomb threats in the June crime at a PNC bank in Crafton.
A vibrator was used to construct the fake bomb, according to police.
Police Chief Mark Sumpter told WPXI: '[Stein] stated he had a bomb, showed the teller wires hanging out from his shirt and demanded cash.'
According to the CBS affiliate after Stein escaped, a different officer, Mike Gatsgeb, spotted cash in Stein's vehicle and he was stopped. The fake bomb was under the front passenger seat in Stein's car.
Sumpter said: '(It was) a makeshift box he made out of a box, black tape, vibrator and cellphone.'
Several roads were shut down that day and a bomb squad was called.
Gastgeb told WPXI: 'As we were getting him out of the vehicle, he started telling us what he did. He said he made a big mistake.'
An attorney for the 36-year-old Pittsburgh man says he discovered that $9,000 he'd invested to cover his approaching honeymoon was gone.
The attorney says desperation drove him to don an Iron Man mask and take a fake bomb to threaten tellers and rob the bank in Crafton, just west of Pittsburgh.
Stein's bond was revoked pending his May 31 sentencing.
